Why did I apply for the Global Trainee Program?
During my final exams I learned about the Global Trainee Program via the Internet and I knew right away that this was exactly what I was looking for.
The most interesting aspects for me were its main focus on finance and business control as well as its international structure. What other graduate program consists of such an international group where all candidates originate from diverse countries? Besides these important "hard" facts, the determining factors for joining the program were finally"soft" qualities such as the enjoyable atmosphere during the recruitment process which sold me on ABB. Therefore, I was on top of the world when they chose me.

My working experiences during the program
During these 18 months I have never regretted my choice. It was a highly exciting and challenging time working for four ABB units in the field of finance and controlling in three countries: my home country Germany, the Headquarters in Switzerland and Chile.
My assignments were typically characterized by project work where I could bring in my own ideas and experience. I had the chance to develop a knowledge management platform, was involved in an inventory control project and in the revision of project controlling processes, and was improving hedging strategies. In addition to the project work, I was involved in forecasting and budgeting routines in my role as assistant for a business area controller.

Personal benefits of the program
Due to this wide spectrum of tasks and continuous learning, I achieved solid financial knowledge, gained a deep insight into different working cultures and management styles and learned a lot about ABB’s manifold products and services. My personal highlight was the international trainee group consisting of ten nationalities. During our joint headquarter assignment in Switzerland we got to know each other either at work and/or in common spare time activities.

Looking back at the trainee times
The appeal of the GTP is definitely its multinational character, the corporate sponsorship, as well as the mentoring and tutoring parts. It allows you to build-up a cross-national network and to deepen financial and professional knowledge in a fast-moving global company.
